MISSION

The mission of the Department of Physical Education, in general, is identical to the mission of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  This mission, in each instance, is to provide competent teaching, research, and service to the community.  

Specifically, the Department of Physical Education contributes to this mission effort by providing competent instruction for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's general education program and for its own professional program in teacher education at the secondary level; moreover, its faculty is involved in community service, through professional activities such as, lectures, program organizers, and consultants.  

GOAL

The goal of the Department of Physical Education is to provide students with competent instruction and an opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree in Physical Education with certification to teach at the elementary and secondary levels.  The Department of Physical Education strives to prepare and encourage students to conduct quality research that contributes to the pedagogical process and the ultimate quality of life.  The department endeavors to prepare professional assistance to the citizens of Maryland.  

OBJECTIVES
        
The programs in the Department of Physical Education are designed to meet the following objectives:

  • To provide students with a sound foundation in general education and the skills required to function efficiently in the field of Physical Education.
  • To prepare students for employment  opportunities in the field of Physical Education and other areas related to the major.
  • To prepare students for graduate study in Physical Education and related areas of study.
  • To provide students with competent instruction in order to earn the Bachelor of Science degree with certification to teach physical education at the elementary and secondary levels.
