DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Students who wish to major in teacher education must have an overall and major content grade-point average of 2.75 for admission to and retention in the program.
  • Grades of "C" or above must be attained in each required course of the major, the specialized content area combined with the education courses.
  • The PRAXIS I examination (scheduled and administered by Educational Testing Services) must be taken, passed, and scores must be submitted to the Education Department as a pre-condition for admission to teacher education.
  • The PRAXIS II examination (scheduled and administered by Educational Testing Services) must be taken, passed, and scores must be submitted to the Education Department as a pre-condition for the teacher internship experience.
ALL PERSONS WHO ARE PREPARING TO TEACH MUST ALSO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COURSES, WITH A GRADE OF C OR BETTER, IN ADDITION TO THEIR SPECIALIZATION REQUIREMENTS:

6 Semester Hours for all Content Majors who are preparing to teach in their subject fields

12 Semester Hours for all Special Education Majors

1The teacher internship is a full-time experience, and no classes, except for the Senior Seminar, are to be taken with it. Interns must follow the school day and holiday schedule of the school system in which their internships occur. Interns must provide their own transportation.
