MISSION

The mission of the undergraduate program in rehabilitation services is to prepare students for entry-level employment in a variety of human services and rehabilitation-related settings, especially those serving physically, emotionally and developmentally disabled individuals. The program is also designed to prepare its graduates to enter masters level programs in rehabilitation, physical therapy, related allied health fields, and human services.

GOALS

The goal of the Rehabilitation Services Program is to prepare highly qualified health care professionals for entry-level positions in public and private health care and rehabilitation settings and to prepare those students desiring to continue their education to enter graduate programs in Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and numerous other allied health and human service programs.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the programs offered in Rehabilitation Services are as follows:

  • To offer instruction which reflects the philosophy and mission of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education.
  • To meet the academic requirements established by the University.
  • To meet the professional requirements and standards set by rehabilitation and related professional organizations.
  • To provide courses and learning experiences which prepare students for employment in rehabilitation, as well as the allied health and related human service professions.
  • To guide students in the development of leadership skills through participation in rehabilitation-related programs and student organizations.
  • To provide course offerings and professional programs to the University and the general community.
  • To provide an intellectual environment designed to facilitate academic growth and creative development.
  • To prepare students for graduate school and continued professional development.

PRE-REHABILITATION SERVICES MAJORS

Students interested in becoming Rehabilitation Services majors can apply as Pre-Rehabilitation Services. Application packets are available in the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Students must complete selected 100 and 200 level courses (27 credit hours); have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and submit an essay as directed in the application packet.
