Description of Crime
Attempted Home Invasion / Armed Robbery (Off Campus)
On January 27, 2016 Princess Anne Police Department reports an attempted Home invasion at Talon's South Apartments. The victim who reported the incident could not say what direction the suspect fled, but there was no indication he headed toward campus.
The suspect is described as:
African American male, in mid twenties, 5 ft. - 07 inches tall, with tattoo on left cheek and wearing a blue hoodie
The suspect displayed what appeared to be an automatic weapon and fled in a unknown direction. No one was injured.
As a precaution the UMES Police increased their patrol routine and conducted a building-by-building search.
On February 02, 2016 a suspect was charged in connection with this incident, incarcerated and held on a $150,000.00 bond.

On July 06,2015 at approximately 9:38 AM the Somerset County Emergency Center received a telephone call from a unidentified person stating that a bomb had been placed on campus at the construction site for the ""New Engineering, Aviation, Math and Science Building.
This site is located on the East side of campus at College Backbone Road. Approximately 150 construction workers on site, UMES employees and others in adjacent buildings, Food Science, Physical Plant and Agriculture Research are asked to evacuate the area as protocol.
Maryland State Police and Worchester County Sheriff Department explosive detection dogs were called upon to assist with a search of the site.
The site is declared safe. No, explosive device was located.

Shots fired on Campus
On January 25, 2015 at approximately 0200 hours the UMES Police received a report of a fight in front of building ""J"". It was also reported that's gun shots were fired and a bullet penetrated a third floor window in building ""J"" apartment 304C, lodging into the room ceiling.
A suspect or person responsible for discharging a firearm on campus has not been located.
There is no active shooter on campus and no threat to the campus community. Updates will be provided as circumstances warrant it.
An Investigation by the UMES Police is continuing.

Description of crime
Bank Robbery
On 12/10/2014 at approximately 1006 am the Princess Anne Police reported a bank robbery which had just occurred off campus at the BB & T Bank located at Mount Vernon Road within the town of Princess Anne.
The suspect is described as a black male with light complexion, 40 years old, 200 pounds, 5-09, wearing a white pullover shirt, blue jeans and a black toboggan.
No weapon was displayed during the incident.
The suspect departed from the bank and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
There is no known immediate threat to the campus community, however caution should be exercised by all UMES students and staff at all times when traveling on or near the UMES Campus. "

On November 16, 2014 at approximately 03:10 PM two African American male suspects armed with a knife approached two victims and demanded their personal property. The victims ran toward Somerset Avenue and the suspects gave chase. The victims were able to elude the suspects in Princess Anne.
Suspects are described as:
1. African American male, 6 - 0 ft., 180 lbs., 18 - 20 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and brown boots.

Portable Metal Detectors Temporarily Installed
On October 30, 2014 at approximately 5:19 PM the UMES Police Department has installed portable metal detectors at the public entrances to the Student Services Center. The department took the step in response to dialogue detected on a social media site popular with college students.
The detectors are functioning and students entering the SSC may be asked to talk with an officer should the mechanism be triggered.

On February 16, 2013 at aproximately 9:01 pm., an alleged assault (stabbing) occurred in the vicinity of College Backbone Road and Dean Harris Court. The three unknown suspects allegedly approached the victim, who was an occupant in a motor vehicle. One suspect approached and stabbed the victim in the chest. The three alleged suspects fled east on foot toward Dean Harris Court and remains at large.
Because we are unware of the werebouts of the suspects, please exercise extreme caution. Keep doors locked and remain on alert until further notified.
Descriptions of suspects:
Suspect #1 African American male, light-skinned, 5ft. 11 in,, skinny build, wearing a ski cap.

Rt. 822 ( UMES Blvd.) between Talon Square-South and the entrance to Arden's Run. This location is not on the UMES campus, but in the immediate vicinity of the campus and near student housing.
The attack appears to have been the result of a prior argument and was not random.

On 0ctober 18, at approximately 1203 am. a little after midnight there was an armed robbery in front of Murphy Hall (Academic Oval side). There were five individuals involved in the robbery (one is now identified as a female; two suspects displayed firearms.The suspects were last seen departing the area in a western direction toward J. T. Williams Hall. No one was injured during the robbery.It is believed that the other suspects have left the campus and are not students.
The suspects are described as follows.
Suspect #1: Light skinned black male, green hoodie, 5'8"", 150 lbs, blue jeans. Displayed a semi-automatic dark in color pistol. Suspect #2: Dark skinned black male, black zippered jacket, possibly wearing blue jeans, 5'8"", 160 lbs. Displayed a dark in color revolver. Suspect #3: Black male, no further description. Report of Shoots fired on the UMES Campus

On October15, 2010 at approximately 11:24 pm there was a report of "" shoots fired"" on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The shoots were fired as individuals were departing teh William P. Hytche Athletic Center at athe university. The evening activities,which were held to celebrate teh beginning of the UMES "" Hawk Hysteria"" basketball season, were concluding when the attendees, consisting of students and local community attendees were departing the Hytche Athletic Center and shoots were reported as fired outside the athletic center. No victims were located at the scene, but an individual did present themselves at a local hospital as the victim of gun shoot wounds. The victim is not a student of the university, but a local community member. The investigation is continuing.

On November18, 2009 at approximately 9:55pm two African American males robbed a UMES student on campus. One of the suspects displayed a handgun. The robbery took place in the area in front of the Henson Center.
Suspect#1: Black male,dark skin, approx, 5-08, thin build, no facial hair, approx. 19 years of age. Suspect was wearing a dark colored bulky coat with a hood. The hood has fur around hood opening. The suspect also brandished a black semi-automatic handgun described by the victim as the typical 9mm style. Suspect # 2 Black male, dark skin, thin build, approx. 19 years of age. This suspect was wearing a white track style jacket and dark colored baseball cap.
The suspects left the campus by departing west on Dr. William P. Hytche Blvd. in to the Town of Princess Anne.

On Thursday, March 27, 2008 University Police apprehended suspects involved in the two armed robberies on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at approximately 11:40 pm. the student victim was walking from the Fredrick Douglas Library towards Murphy Hall. As the victim was walking past two black males walking slowly in the same direction. The two black male stopped the victim and displayed knife as a weapon and demanded the money. The second black male suspect searched the victim’s person and took victim cellular phone. The victim described the first suspect as a B/M, 5-08, he wore all black hoodie and sweatpants. Victim described the second suspect as a B/M, 5-08, heavy build, he wore a black hoodie and light colored sweatpants, with dreads and scruffy facial hair.

On 10/29/07 the Princess Anne Police Department responded to the Arden Runs Apartment in reference to a home invasion. Three armed suspects are believed to have forced their way into an apartment. As a result one subject has been hospitalized with serious injuries. We are asking that all student take extra precaution with enter and leaving their residence. "On June 24, 2007 at approximately 11:30PM female subject reported being robbed, at gun point, while in the area of the Student Development Center. The victim stated to police that an unknown black male approached her demanding money. Victim advised suspect that she didnt have any money, and emptied her pockets to prove it. Suspect then walked away from victim and met with two unknown black males who were walking down the sidewalk. The suspect, dark skin black male, approximately 5'7, with a scar above his lip was last seen wearing a baseball cap with blue jean. Victim advised suspect did have a gun tucked in his waist band. On 4-27-2007, The Princess Anne Police Department responded to the Arden's Run/Talon Sqare Apartments for two shootings and one stabbing victim. The University Police Department will be assisting the Princess Anne Police Department in any way possible. On March 31, 2005, at approximately 1749 hours. Three male subjects reported being robbed at gun point while standing in front of the Student Apartments. The victim's, reported to police that the suspects approached from the rear on foot. Suspect #1, described as a dark skin male, heavy set with heavy eyebrows and wearing a white t-shirt with a wool mask. Suspect #2, described as a light skin male thin build wearing a white t-shirt and wool mask. Suspect #2, was in possession of a hand gun. On March 30, 2005 at approximately 2133 hours. a male subject reported being robbed at gun point in the area of The Arts & Technology Building. The victim reported to police that he was approached by two male suspects on foot. Suspect #1, described as a dark skin male, approximately 5'10, wearing a dark colored hoodie style jacket and in possession of a hand gun. Suspect #2, described as a light skin male, approximately 5'10 wearing dark colored hoodie and a black bandanna covering face. "On September 22, 2004 at approximately 2130 hours, a male subject reported that he was robbed at knife point in the area of University Terrace. The victim stated that the two suspects approached on bicycles. Suspect #1, dark skin approximately 5'7 wearing black shirt with jeans. Suspect #2 light skin male, approximately 5'8 with a pony tail wearing gray or black shirt with jeans. Victim stated suspects displayed a knife and demanded us currency. Suspects then fled teh area with $20.00 us currency.

"On September 9, 2004 at approximately 2130 hours, a male subject reported that he had been assaulted and robbed in the parking lot of the Student Development Center. The victim stated the suspect was a large black male, wearing a white shirt, white shorts and white shoes. According to the victim, the suspect struck victim in the back of the head as he walked pass. Once the victim was knocked to the ground the suspect had the victim give him $45.oo us currency. The suspect then fled the area headed in the direction of Hawks Landing.

"On February 12, 2004 at approximately 0200hrs, A female subject reported that she was grabbed by the arm in the parking lot of University Terrace.
The victim stated that the suspect was a black male, wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt, dark colored jacket(color unknown), sweat pants ( color unknown ), approximately 5'11"", and with a thin build jumped from the passenger side of a large white vehicle possible two door.
The victim stated that the suspect ran over and grabbed her arm as she was attempting to exit her car. The victim was able to pull her arm away and the suspect got back into the passenger side of the suspect vehicle which fled the scene.
